Explanation the Program:The Walkable Placemaking Fellowship Program (Program) is a Placemaking Sandbox that provides learners with intellectual and creative tools to explore place-based issues and opportunities in relation to walkability and walking that leaves no one behind.

Inspired by Australia’s successful Placemaking SandboxLinks to an external site. Project and the Walkability Transitions Program, the Walkable Placemaking Education Program provides a timely response to the need for a walkability curriculum. This need was identified in the first-ever Walkability Summit held in the Philippines in January 2024.

The Summit identified the need for a holistic curriculum on Walkability Transitions in General Education programs and offerings, which includes a fundamental and shared understanding of the walkability concept, and its role in the broader transportation and societal context.

The Program adopts the placemaking process to create pedestrian-friendly

environments, with the end goal of achieving long-term benefits of place. It frames placemaking as a relational model that strengthens the connection between place, self, community and nature.
